Silo Bags For Dry Grain Storage
Silo bags are made of triple-layer of thick lamented extruded plastic about 230 or 235 microns thick. There are two outer layers white in color with UV protective coating while the inner layer in contact with the grain is black in color.
When loaded completely with dry grains, they resemble a long sausage-like tubular shape of around 8 ft to 12 ft diameter and 200 ft length and take upto 8,000 to 12,000 bushels of grain load. They are used for starring grains like wheat, barley, sunflower, soybeans and cornflour.
Benefits of using silo bags
- Maintains grain moisture in storage when an air-tight environment is maintained
- Easy means for on-farm segregation of commodities which provides identity preservation
- Simplifies harvest logistics by giving flexible storage at suitable specifically when permanent storage is a hurdle
- They are very cost-effective alternate and can become a buffer for providing additional storage
- Capital investment gets reduced when building permanent still bins
Disadvantages of silo bags
- They can be used only once
- Once the grain is stored in bags, aeration cannot control temperature, moisture distribution and growth of fungi and insects
- Silo bags cannot be used for warehouse receipt grain
- Silo bags require specific unloading and loading device and the first time users need to rent or purchase one
- Monitoring and extra time is required to manage the grain stored in silo bags
- Storing grains in silo bags can make them prone to damage from vermins like rodents, insect pests etc. and monitoring and protective measures are required for that
- The grains in silo bags are susceptible to negative influences from the environment specially extreme weather
It is important to contact a Silo Bag Manufacturer who can provide silo bags to you at affordable prices and which are strong enough to hold a large amount of dry grains for future use.
