Flexitanks Is An Ideal Solution For Biodiesel Manufacturers-Fluid Flexitank Manufacturer

Flexitanks Is An Ideal Solution For Biodiesel Manufacturers

Since 2005 the biodiesel industry has seen outstanding growth along with rise in feedstock prices and increase in global competition. But with competition comes need to look towards newer technologies to enhance supply chains and lessen costs.

Flexitanks is one such solution that is ideal and should be looked into by players in the biodiesel industry.

Although flexitanks are not a ‘new’ technology but in recent years they have gained great momentum as bulk liquid transport method.

These are as the name suggest flexible, collapsible soft bladders that fit inside the standard 20ft container on being filled.

The advantages flexitanks has in concern of biodiesel manufacturers are:

  • Flexitank is a cost efficient method. From the raw materials to the end products all can be transported with use of flexitanks in case of biodiesel. Potential cost efficiency is doubled.
  • On installation fexitanks products can be loaded utilising connecting hose and pump (90mins- 2hrs) and promptly sent for transport. Similarly cargo can be discharged at destination. Transhipment, cleaning and storage are unnecessary due to one-time use nature of flexitanks. Supply chain is hence shortened, overall cost decreased and shipment reaches quicker.
  • Shorter supply chains mean less risk
  • Flexitanks are 100% recyclable.
  • Flexitanks help to limit exposure to volatility of market and combat price fluctuation risks. Small quantity feedstock orders mean improved quality and less accumulation thus lowering risk of quality downgrade.
  • Smaller end product shipment through flexitanks also indicate reachability to more customers and hence larger and diverse customer base (spreading out of risks). This means better turnover rates and more manufacturer control on cashflow with less dependence on finances.
  • Flexibility of flexitanks is advantageous in sourcing feedstock from all around the world, with simultaneous ease in global transport of end product. They can be transported by sea, rail or road.
  • The ready availability of flexitanks are a huge plus point in comparison to ISO Tanks that are limited.
  • They are easy to set out and hence manufacturers may order feedstock according to need without involving need for storage and stocking.
  • In equal measure manufacturers can respond quickly to customer’s demand for end product.

Best Practices For Loading Transport And Unloading of Flexitanks-Fluid Flexitanks

Best Practices For Loading, Transport And Unloading of Flexitanks

Flexitanks are the most efficient way to transport bulk liquid from one point to another – be it via land or via water. They offer excellent protection against contamination and oxidation, making sure that the liquid reaches its final destination in a pristine state.

However, to get the best out of flexitanks, you need to be very careful about loading, transport, and unloading processes. Even the best flexitanks command being handled very meticulously in order to get best results. At Rishi FIBC, we guide our customers about the best handling methods of our fluid flexitanks so that the liquid can be stored and transported safely.

Here is a summary of the best practices we recommend for loading, transport, and unloading of flexitanks.

Loading of Flexitank

Correct loading is the most crucial step in the transportation of bulk liquid using flexitanks. The first few things to look out for are: using dedicated and tested hoses that have been stored in the ideal conditions prior to use, checking if all valves are in the correct position before starting the filling, and that the left door of the container is properly shut before filling begins.

After doing the above checks, it’s mandatory that the filling hose be set up in a way that the stress on the valve is minimal. Hose support should be mounted at the same level as the valve – this prevents strain on the hose as well as the coupling.

Gases may impact the quality of certain liquids such as wine and therefore, the filler must make sure that no gases enter the flexitank before, during or after filling. The filling process must start with a relatively lower rate of filling, which is, no more than 200 liters per minute. After the first 2000 liters have been filled, the rate can be increased to about 500-700 liters per minute, but never exceeding 1000 liters per minute.

Another point to note is that there should be no contact of the bulkhead and valve of the flexitank with the container door’s interior. Finally, capacity instructions from the manufacturer should be strictly adhered to – you must never overfill or underfill a flexitank.

Transport of Flexitank

It is vital to ensure that no spillage takes place during transportation. Therefore, the filler should mandatorily install all spillage prevention mechanisms before transport. Also, it is a very effective step to visually check for leakages before securing the containers and preparing the vehicle for transport.

The vehicle being used for transporting the flexitanks should ideally be secured with wheel chocks so as to minimize the movement of the liquid – the lesser the liquid moves, the better would be its condition upon arrival.

Unloading of Flexitank

Spill prevention remains an important factor to watch out for even during the final stage of unloading. Drip trays and other measures should help you significantly in avoiding any wastage.

The unloading should begin by opening the right-hand side door of the container. The left door should remain closed almost throughout the unloading – until the flexitank is nearly empty.

Once the unloading is complete, you must immediately remove all markings from the container, announcing the container to be clean and safe for subsequent use.

At Rishi FIBC, we manufacture fluid flexitanks with utmost care in our state-of-the-art manufacturing plant at Mysore in India. We use the best quality material to ensure the bag can withstand loading, transport, and unloading unharmed and without causing any damage to the liquid it contains. However, we do recommend the best practices be followed in all the three stages – loading, transport, and unloading so that the liquid is transported in the most efficient manner.

Shipping Wine In Bulk With Fluid Flexitanks

Fluid Flexitanks for Wine Transport while Shipping

Wine is one of the most precious, and equally as delicate, products to transport. It needs thorough care in packaging and constant monitoring en route to make sure that it reaches its final owner just as the winemaker desired it to!

No matter how logistically challenging it is to take wine across shores, the market for imported wines from distant lands has remained strong for more than a century. The methods of transportation, however, have evolved and there is now a tremendous shift towards using flexitanks for wine transport. Flexitanks are being preferred as these allow transporting wine in the best state and lowest costs possible.

Let’s take a look at the three types of wine transportation.

Bottle Transport

To give the wine a safe, uneventful journey, transporters chose to ship bottled wines instead of in bulk containers. Although bottle transportation made it fairly easy to ensure that no contamination occurred on the way and that the wine was ready to into the racks right after reaching the final shore, shipping was a considerably expensive process.

Why Bottle Transport?

Because the weight of the bottles themselves made a substantial chunk of cargo. In addition, the bottles were prone to breakage and needed additional packaging material to prevent it. The weight and volume of the bottles restricted the amount of wine that could be transported per ship.

To make good these shortcomings of the bottle transport method, the industry has been radically shifting to bulk transport instead of shipping bottles.

Bulk transport method is of two types depending on the type of container used.

  • ISO Tanks

ISO tanks are hollow steel tanks. They can be put directly on a train, truck or ship and are reusable. Besides wine, ISO tanks are also used for transporting other materials. A typical ISO tank has a capacity of holding up to 26,000 liters of wine.

  • Flexitanks

Using flexitanks for wine transport is the latest and most preferred method among manufacturers. Flexitanks are usually disposable, flexible bags that are put into standard shipping containers for transportation.

Flexitanks for wine transport facilitates the transportation of almost three times as much wine as bottle transport. While a standard shipping container holds about 12,000 wine bottles, a flexitank holds the equivalent of 32,000 wine bottles. This makes it a much more ecologically conscious transportation method than bottle transport, in addition to bringing about a dramatic cost reduction. And the biggest advantage of flexitanks over ISO tanks for wine transport is that the contamination risk is significantly lower in the former.

Take a look at the advantages: https://fluidflexitanks.com/advantages-of-shipping-with-flexitanks/

The typical volume of a flexitank is about 25,000 liters. They are safe to transport via ship, train or truck. A reliably manufactured flexitank is nearly 100% effective in preventing oxidation, thereby preventing premature ageing of wine.

The most common material used for making flexitanks in the current day is polyethylene with ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) used as a barrier material. EVOH keeps the wine from getting in contact with any organic material thereby preserving its original color.

Fluid flexitanks are undoubtedly the winner of the wine logistics industry. They have an excellent capacity, offer superior protection against oxidation and contamination and can easily be loaded and unloaded from one medium of transport to another. Rishi FIBC fluid flexitanks have a fine construction, undergo strict quality checks and are the most trusted in the industry for wine transportation.

Recommendations Before Installing The Flexitanks-Fluid Flexitanks Manufacturer

Recommendations Before Installing The Flexitanks

Various types of containers are in use today which helps in quick and efficient handling of the cargo. Flexitank is the latest type of container which is basically a flexible bag and is usually placed inside a dry freight container and is then filled with liquid cargo. Shipment of liquids in flexitanks is becoming a usual substitute to drums and tank containers as well as canisters.

About flexitanks

Flexitanks are made using rubber, nylon, polyethylene or plastic, a flexible “inflatable” bag type, which is placed within a traditional 20-foot dry freight container, prior to being filled with the liquid cargo via a valve opening either at the bottom end or on top.

Various types of flexitanks are available in the market such as:

  • Affordable single layer bags made of polypropylene or plastic. These may be very susceptible to cuts, which can result in the complete or partial loss of the cargo.
  • More costly multi-layer bags include five to six-ply polyethylene and a polyethylene fiber woven outer layer. These are stronger and more defiant to damage than single layer bags.
  • Rubber bags

Understanding the procedure for loading and discharging

In order to load the flexitank, the liquid is pumped in after connecting the hose to the loading connection. It takes about half an hour to fill up the flexitank however, it depends on the type of cargo, and after completion the container and flexitank are all set for transportation by rail, sea or road. At the place of delivery, the only equipment which is needed is a pump to set free the cargo. Certain liquids showcase certain physical and chemical properties whereby they become more viscous during storage or lower temperatures. To enable the smooth unloading of such cargoes, a heating pad is installed in the container, along with the flexitank. As per the manufacturers of flexitanks it is possible to transfer almost any non-perilous liquid in this way, whether for industrial, chemical or food application. But it is important to note that flexitanks are not right for the carriage of hazardous cargoes.

Recommendations before installing the flexitank

As the flexitank is becoming more and more popular, certain precautions are essential to limit the risk of leaking flexitanks. Prior to the flexitank is placed in the container, the below mentioned points should to be carried out:

  • Get rid of any protruding screw or nail in the floor plating and any other sharp or protruding part
  • Carefully inspect the inside of the dry freight container for any defect or damage.
  • Ensure that the lower part of the container is lined with cardboard lining and is fixed properly to the container sides and floor.
  • Cover the sharp edges and welding seams with tape.
  • Use wooden bracing at the door, with a gap in the lower part for the valve of the flexitank
  •  Make sure that there is enough space between the container doors and the filling valve when they are closed.
  • Install over-pressure valves if the cargo may start fermentation

Following these recommendations prior to the installation of flexitanks would enable the users to make the best use of it.

Advantages of Shipping with Flexitanks-Fluid Flexitanks Manufacturer

Advantages of Shipping with Flexitanks

The international companies in order to be more competitive should come out with best ideas to cut down their cost with every approach. Thus, it is important for the companies to be unbiased for all possible solutions which might include the logistics needs as well. Most of the companies out there are always looking for various unconventional ways to save money with their shipments. For instance, in case a company is shipping non-hazardous liquid product flexi-tank containers are an excellent option to consider.

The Flexi-tank was developed by the U.S. military which was used primarily to store and transport diesel fuel and water. It is a mass liquid storage unit, prepared with numerous layers of polyethylene, with an external layer of woven polypropylene. As international commerce expanded, logisticians took benefit of this technology to transport any non-risky liquids by simply placing them in a standard dry container. It essentially changes an ocean container to a safer, healthier and cost-effective alternative for shippers. Flexitanks are extensively favored for food-grade products such as fruit concentrates, edible oil, beverages and non-perilous chemical transportation due to their high effectiveness along with superior defense against contamination.

Top Benefits

Flexi-tank is a substitute to standard transportations such as railway, tank-containers, or drums, road tanks, IBCs and other way of transportation. When it comes to shipping bulk liquid there are quite a few factors that need to be taken care of. Business companies that ships bulk liquid experiences a lot of difficulties carrying out a shipment free of mistake. With the arrival of Flexi-tanks, it has certainly become a lot easier as it offers some great benefit which are as listed below.

  • One can considerably reduce expenses of transportation. When compared with tank-container one will just pay for one way freight of the 20-feet container. There is no requirement to return container and pay for this.
  • By using Flexi-tank as packaging for the cargo one can end up saving save not less than 30-40 % in comparison with cost of drums or other capacities.
  • One can also save around 90 % of time for loading and unloading of the cargo.
  • There is no need of cleaning the Flexi-tank after transportation as it is disposable.
  • The material used in the manufacture of the flexi-tank is in fact cheaper than drums or other alternative packaging means.
  • When compared to ISO tanks and drums, Flexitanks can carry increased volume of transportable liquid.
  • The proportion of wastage is very low and there remains negligible or no residue after unloading.

All these phenomenal advantages of flexitanks clearly explain why Flexi-tanks are the most preferred option for shipping. Thus, it can be said that Flexi-tank is one of the most inventive and creative flexible containers that has been designed of late to carry liquid, fluid, foodstuffs and other such things. A flexitank can usually carry molasses, base oils, beer, wine, fruit juices, latex, glycerin, non-hazardous chemicals, egg products, water, oils, edible oils, bio-diesel, chemicals, non-dangerous pharmaceuticals as well as industrial products.

A Birdseye View Of The Flexitank Market 2018-2026-Fluid Flexitanks

A Birdseye View Of The Flexitank Market 2018 – 2026

All liquids that are not categorized as dangerous or hazardous can be transported with the help of flexitanks. The flexitanks are nothing but large flexibags bags used to transport large quantities of liquid. Research shows that they are the preferred transportation material for edible liquids, like cooking oils, wines and fruit juices. In fact, 30 percent of the wine from across the world is transported in flexitanks.

Demand of Flexitanks

The demand for flexitanks is expected to significantly increase in the Asia Pacific region. This is primarily because the region is one of the leading producers and exporters of liquids, including aerated and non-aerated beverages, industrial liquids, vegetable oils, water, and industrial liquids. Hence, the demand for flexitanks in the Asia Pacific region will continue to grow from 2016 to 2026, at the rate of 14.3% CAGR.

Flexitank revenue in the Asia Pacific region in 2018 is predicted to reach a whopping US$159.4 million. This is primarily because it is more economical to transport bulk liquid using flexitanks, even though the cost of one unit of flexitank is higher than the cost of drums or intermediate bulk container.

The global flexitank market is dominated by a few leading manufacturers, who own 50% of the market share. The key players in the global flexitank market are Trans Ocean Bulk Logistics, Global Flexitank Logistics, Trust Flexitanks, Qingdao Global Flexitank Logistics, and Braid Logistics UK.

Cost of Flexitanks

A standard 20-foot container can easily accommodate one flexitank, which has a capacity of 24,000 liters. On the other hand, to transport the same volume, an exporter would require 18 to 20 units of IBC tanks and 80 units of drums.

Qingdao Hengxin Plastic announced in 2018 it would be increasing the production of flexitanks to 200,000 units. The company has been manufacturing these bags for more than 10 years, and in June 2017, it sold about 100,000 flexitanks.

Even the US manufacturers of flexitank are increasing production due to rise in customer demand. This was obvious from the announcement made by Environmental Packaging Technology, located in Zeeland, Michigan.

In India, Rishi FIBC Pvt Ltd, a leading manufacturer of flexitanks, has expanded its production capacity by developing a massive 180,000-square-feet of production facility in Mysore, Karnataka. It will be using this facility to produce world-class flexitanks in addition to other bulk packing products.

The Bottom Line

With emerging economies of Brazil, India, South Africa, Chile, Thailand, Indonesia, and Argentina along with China being the major exporters of edible liquids, there is no doubt that the demand for safe, tamper-proof, spill-proof and economical liquid packaging will increase. From 2018 to 2026, Latin America, South Africa, and the Asia Pacific will be the highest users of flexitanks. These are the regions where large quantities of non-hazardous liquids are produced and exported to all corners of the globe.

Using Flexitanks to Transport Vegetable Oil-Fluid Flexitanks

Using Food Grade flexitanks to Transport Vegetable Oil

Vegetable oils are an essential part of cooking. As the demand for food transport is increasing so is the demand for the vegetable oils, mainly – coconut, palm, and olive oil. Over 5 billion pounds of vegetable oil is imported to the US alone. Transporting oil is not easy. While there are multiple options available including drums, IBCs, and pre-packaged bottles, all of these are not so efficient and are becoming costlier. Taking the space and cost efficiency into account vegetable oil shippers are now increasingly relying on food grade flexitanks for transporting vegetable oil safely and efficiently.

Laws Concerning Transport of Vegetable Oil

The United Nations has established rules for vegetable oil transport to safeguard marine wildlife in case of an accident that disperses the oils. The laws specify how a ship needs to be built to ensure safe and secure carrying of vegetable oil, placement of the oil, and type of the material they can be carried in. The laws allow the use of flexitanks to carry vegetable oil, with a caveat that these need to be stored in an appropriate space in the ship.

While flexitanks comply with the UNs regulations, these are much preferred by shippers too as these help to maintain the structural integrity of the oil even under duress and also help to retain the taste of the product.

Advantages of Using Flexitanks for Transporting Vegetable Oils

Flexitanks are specifically designed for transporting bulk liquids. These bladder bags are made of rubber, nylon, plastic or polyethylene and can hold 25 tons of liquid. Discussed here are some advantages of flexitanks that make them so useful for transporting vegetable oil.

  • Keeps the quality intact – To make them waterproof and airproof, flexitanks are made of several layers, each containing pumps and valves to seal off water and air. This ensures that the vegetable oil is transported safely and uncontaminated.
  • Food grade flexitanks are availableFood grade flexitanks are also available. All the components of such bags are approved by the FDA. So, you can safely transport food-grade liquid products in such bags.

Read more: The Many Advantages of Using Flexitanks

  • Convenient storage – The flexible bladders make for great convenience when it comes to storage. Shipping of flexitanks can be easily conducted via car, truck, or sea.
  • More efficient – As compared to standard liquid containers, flexitanks can accommodate 40% more vegetable oil.
  • No cleaning cost – As flexitanks are designed for single use this does away with the cost and the hassle of cleaning and repair. Return freight, as may be there in the case of tank containers, is also avoided when using the disposable flexitank. Also, as the flexitanks are recyclable, these are eco-friendly too.
  • Convenient loading and unloading – Flexitanks are much faster to load and unload making them more convenient and efficient as compared to IBC totes, or drums.
  • Saves cost – Cost efficiency is one of the key reasons for the popularity of flexitanks amongst shippers. Compared to traditional means, the cost of using flexitank is three times less. Also, there is no need for additional storage when using flexitanks as these bulk bags are a storage unit in themselves.
