Guidelines – Discharge a Flexitank
Flexitanks are a safe and secure means of transporting non-hazardous bulk liquid provided you take all the necessary care and follow the best practices. Standards have been laid down for each stage right from using appropriate flexitanks for the liquid to be transported to selecting the container. You also need to prepare the container well and follow guidelines when installing and loading the flexitanks. Here we discuss safe practices that you must follow when unloading a flexitank. Rishi FIBC, being a prominent flexitank manufacturer in India, offers necessary usage guidance to its clients so that they can enjoy the maximum benefit of fluid flexitanks.
Steps to Follow when Unloading a Flexitank
- On a level ground, position the container close to the discharge point. Make sure to carefully inspect the exterior of the container to check for any damages. Only open the right-hand door. The left-hand door should remain closed during the entire discharge procedure. Remove the protective cover from the valve or hose by reaching into the container. At this point, you should not yet remove the hose cap. Find out the product discharge hose and arrange it by the container door. If necessary, you can support the discharge hose from the door lock of the top container. Ensure the valve is closed at this point.
- Now, gently remove the valve cap or hose and place it aside. Take the samples first by tilting the valve or hose and drain liquid product into suitable containers. Do not attempt to open the vent cap yet. It is not needed and may also prevent proper aeration. The discharge hose is now to be connected to the tank. Check the connections to see if they are secure enough and clamps are not damaging the flexitank.
- Pump the product till you see lashing rings along the sides of the container. Make sure that no one walks on the flexitanks while pumping is underway. Reduce the pump rate when about 80 percent of the product has been discharged. When the liquid is reduced to around 4 cm from the floor level, enter the container to lift the back of the flexitank. This will drain the product towards the center. You can fold each side of the container and roll it towards the container’s door end. It is advisable to form a small reservoir close to the hose area. A squeegee roller or a brush can be used to move excess heel close to the flexitank’s hose area while completely folding it.
- If you are using a single-use or one-way flexitank, you need to place it aside and ensure its proper disposal. In case, it is a multi-trip flexitank, you will be required to re-pack it for return. Also, make sure to completely remove all transit and protective materials from the flexitank and dispose of correctly. Check if the container is clean before you close its door and release it.
