How to Discharge a Flexitank - Fluid Flexitanks Manufacturer in India

Guidelines – Discharge a Flexitank

Flexitanks are a safe and secure means of transporting non-hazardous bulk liquid provided you take all the necessary care and follow the best practices. Standards have been laid down for each stage right from using appropriate flexitanks for the liquid to be transported to selecting the container. You also need to prepare the container well and follow guidelines when installing and loading the flexitanks. Here we discuss safe practices that you must follow when unloading a flexitank. Rishi FIBC, being a prominent flexitank manufacturer in India, offers necessary usage guidance to its clients so that they can enjoy the maximum benefit of fluid flexitanks.

Steps to Follow when Unloading a Flexitank

  • On a level ground, position the container close to the discharge point. Make sure to carefully inspect the exterior of the container to check for any damages. Only open the right-hand door. The left-hand door should remain closed during the entire discharge procedure. Remove the protective cover from the valve or hose by reaching into the container. At this point, you should not yet remove the hose cap. Find out the product discharge hose and arrange it by the container door. If necessary, you can support the discharge hose from the door lock of the top container. Ensure the valve is closed at this point.
  • Now, gently remove the valve cap or hose and place it aside. Take the samples first by tilting the valve or hose and drain liquid product into suitable containers. Do not attempt to open the vent cap yet. It is not needed and may also prevent proper aeration. The discharge hose is now to be connected to the tank. Check the connections to see if they are secure enough and clamps are not damaging the flexitank.
  • Pump the product till you see lashing rings along the sides of the container. Make sure that no one walks on the flexitanks while pumping is underway. Reduce the pump rate when about 80 percent of the product has been discharged. When the liquid is reduced to around 4 cm from the floor level, enter the container to lift the back of the flexitank. This will drain the product towards the center. You can fold each side of the container and roll it towards the container’s door end. It is advisable to form a small reservoir close to the hose area. A squeegee roller or a brush can be used to move excess heel close to the flexitank’s hose area while completely folding it.
  • If you are using a single-use or one-way flexitank, you need to place it aside and ensure its proper disposal. In case, it is a multi-trip flexitank, you will be required to re-pack it for return. Also, make sure to completely remove all transit and protective materials from the flexitank and dispose of correctly. Check if the container is clean before you close its door and release it.

A Fantastic Option for Bulk Liquid Transport - Fluid Flexitanks

A Fantastic Option for Bulk Liquid Transport – Flexitanks

Flexitanks are a revolutionary flexible tank bags that have transformed the way bulk non-hazardous liquids are transported coast to coast. These are considered more cost efficient, convenient and eco-friendly way of transporting liquid as compared to traditionally used drums and ISO tank containers.

Advantages of Using Flexitanks

  • Flexitanks are easier to fill and unload; and can load up to 31% more cargo as compared to drums and IBC totes
  • Reduces labor and loading expense considerably
  • With single-use flexitanks, cleaning and repositioning costs also get reduced
  • A safe mode of transporting liquid as there is no risk of cross-contamination
  • Made of recyclable material therefore does not cause harm to the environment
  • Can store up to 24,000 liters of liquid
  • Are viable option for transporting food ingredients and non-hazardous chemicals and pharmaceutical reagents

Types of Flexitanks

Flexitanks are available in numerous varieties. You can choose the one that best suits your specific requirement.

1. Multi-Layered Flexitanks

Such flexitanks are made out of 4 to 5 layers of very thin and flexible polyethylene, which makes it convenient to completely roll the flexitanks after discharge. In such flexitanks, some product is bound to be left between the layers which cannot be extracted.

2. Single -Layered Flexitanks

Such flexitanks are prepared from a single layer of polyethylene which is thicker than the one used in multi-layer flexitanks and are, therefore, less flexible. The advantage of single layer flexitanks is that no product can get between the layers as there is none.

3. Bi-layer Flexitanks

Such flexitanks come with a hard but thin and flexible layer of polyethylene laminated with another twisted layer that safeguards the interiors of the container.

4. Trailer Flexitanks

These are ideal for converting curtain-sided trailer or reefer into a bulk liquid transport solution. Trailer flexitanks are especially helpful in situations when road tankers or shipping containers are not readily available.

5. Special Design Flexitanks

These are helpful in unique applications when you need to transform a shipping container into a customized bulk transport solution. You can ask for barrier layers to protect the cargo against oxygen, sunlight, heat, and odor transmission.

6. Static Storage Tanks

Such types of flexitanks are useful when you need to store water or any other non-hazardous liquid on a temporary basis. Static storage flexitanks are best suited for outdoor festivals, emergency fire fighting and even to transport water in drought-affected areas.

7. Heater Pads

Flexitanks with heater pads are an ideal option when transporting liquids such as palm oil, fatty acids, waxes, cocoa butter, shea butter, etc. that need heating at the discharge site. Heater pads for flexitanks by Rishi FIBC come with a patented re-heating mechanism. When fitted under the fluid flexitank these help in heating the cargo evenly before unloading. Fluid Flexitanks - A Viable Shipping Solution for the Chemical Industry-Rishi FIBC Solutions

Flexitanks – A Viable Shipping Solution for the Chemical Industry

Flexitanks are emerging as the most popular solution for the storage and shipping of non-hazardous chemical liquids. Compared to traditionally used logistics solutions such as drums and ISO tanks, flexitanks are considered more viable owing to the cost advantages and conveniences it offers.

About Flexitanks

Flexitanks, also known as, flexi-bag or flexible tank, are considered ideal for storing and transporting all types of non-hazardous liquids such as chemicals, food ingredients, pharmaceutical reagents etc. You can store upto 25,000 liters of liquid depending on the size and design of the bag. According to your requirement, you can choose monolayer, bilayer or multilayer flexitanks. Flexitanks are made using PVC, single / double layer polyethylene, and multilayer polyethylene etc.

Significant Advantages of Using Flexitanks for Bulk Liquid Transport

  • Flexitanks are made of recyclable material. Hence, these do not pose any threat to the environment. While single use flexitanks are more popular when shipping chemical liquids, you can also go for re-usable flexitanks.
  • Single-use flexitanks are safer to use as the risk of cross-contamination is significantly reduced.
  • Flexitanks are easier to handle as compare to drums and ISO tanks.
  • Using heating pads, you can easily control the temperature of liquid at the time of discharge.
  • Flexitanks are easily available and you can also order customized flexitanks as per your specific requirement.

What makes Flexitanks Useful for the Chemical Industry?

Single-use recyclable flexitanks help to cut down on the cost of cleaning and re-positioning without harming the environment. Besides, flexitanks are able to carry more liquid as compared to the other traditionally used transportation solutions for bulk liquid chemicals.

Thus, both environmental and economic factors have triggered the use of flexitanks in shipping chemical liquid across exporters.

Types of Chemical You Can Ship Using Flexitanks

Flexitanks are being used to transport all types of non-hazardous liquid chemicals. Various types of oils and industrial products such as vegetable oil, palm oil, additives, ricinoleic acid, emulsions, lactic acid, etc are being shipped used flexitanks. Bulk medicaments are also transported across borders using FDA approved flexitanks.
